Sedation Dentistry

If you're feeling anxious or nervous about dental procedures, sedation dentistry could be the solution you're looking for. At Ease Dental, Dr. Charlie Coon offers a range of sedation options designed to help you feel completely relaxed and comfortable during your treatment. Whether you need a routine cleaning or a more involved procedure, we ensure you experience minimal discomfort and stress throughout the process.

Sedation Dentistry Options: What’s Right for You?

We understand that dental visits can be intimidating for some, which is why we offer two sedation options to help alleviate anxiety and make your experience as easy as possible. For mild sedation, we offer Valium and Halcion. You’ll take one pill the night before your procedure and another in the morning. This method helps you feel calm and relaxed during your visit and will require a responsible party to take you to and from your appointment.

Alternatively, we also offer Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas), which is a fast-acting and adjustable option that helps you stay relaxed during the procedure. Both options are safe and effective, and we’ll work with you to determine the best choice based on your needs and comfort level.

Step-by-Step Process of Sedation Dentistry

  1. Initial Consultation and Assessment
The first step is a consultation with Dr. Coon to discuss your concerns and determine which sedation method is correct for you. We’ll also review your medical history to ensure that the sedation approach is safe for you.
  2. Sedation Administration
Once you’ve chosen your sedation option, we’ll make sure you’re comfortable before we begin. For Valium, you’ll take your pill the night before and again on the day of your appointment. For Nitrous Oxide, we’ll provide a mask through which you’ll breathe in the gas, helping you feel at ease almost instantly.
  3. Procedure Comfort
Throughout your treatment, we’ll monitor your comfort closely. If you opt for Nitrous Oxide, we can adjust the level of sedation as needed to keep you relaxed. If you’re using Valium, you’ll be in a calm, comfortable state for the duration of your visit.
  4. Completion and Recovery
Once we complete your procedure, we will monitor you until the effects of sedation wear off. If you’ve chosen Nitrous Oxide, the gas wears off quickly, and you’ll feel back to normal almost immediately. If you’ve taken Valium, you may feel a little drowsy afterward, so it’s a good idea to arrange for someone to drive you home.

Who Can Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is ideal for individuals who experience anxiety, fear, or discomfort about dental procedures. It’s also beneficial for those who:

  • Need multiple treatments in one visit.
  • Have sensitive teeth or gums.
  • Have a low pain threshold.
  • Struggle with maintaining a comfortable position during treatment.
  • Have a strong gag reflex.

Extremely impressed with the staff here & how quickly they were able to schedule us. Dr Coons was thorough and patient. I've used At Ease Dental for quite a few years now and they are the best. The whole process is easy and they are so good with nerves and pain management. I'm currently going regularly due to gum disease. I was so nervous the first time but don't worry at all now when it's time to go back. We also have no dental insurance and have found them to be very reasonably priced and helpful. I recommend them to anyone that asks!
